On February 26th, on the Gold Coast, EBONYS experienced one of those unforgettable moments, created by Jazmine Jenner.

Watching a collection come to life on a runway is an emotion that is hard to explain. Pieces that, just a few months earlier, were nothing more than ideas, sketches, colors, and symbols were suddenly being worn, watched, and photographed.

That day, EBONYS was not just showcasing swimwear.

The brand was telling its story.

A story bridging African heritage, femininity, freedom, and the desire to create something different.

From Africa to Australia

There was something particularly symbolic about seeing EBONYS walk the runway on the Gold Coast.

A brand inspired by African heritage, imagined by a French woman with African roots, presented thousands of miles away in Australia.

This is exactly what I have always wanted to convey with EBONYS: our roots do not lock us into one place. They can travel with us, evolve, and encounter other cultures.

And on that day, they traveled all the way to the runway.

Symbols that tell a story

Adinkra symbols hold an important place in the EBONYS universe.

They are not there just because they are beautiful. Behind them lie meanings, values, and a history rooted in West Africa.

It is this dimension that I wish to gradually share through each collection.

IMANY, associated with the Epa symbol, evokes justice, authority, and responsibility.

INAYA, associated with Nkyinkyim, speaks of movement, adaptability, and our capacity to evolve as life changes.

On the runway, these symbols took on another dimension.

They were no longer just printed on fabric.

They moved with the bodies. They were worn by different women, each with their own beauty, energy, and way of embodying each piece.

Creating for women I want to see better represented

EBONYS was also born out of a very personal desire: to create a brand in which more women could see themselves.

Black women, mixed-race women, and more broadly, women of diverse skin tones and beauty who have sometimes grown up without seeing themselves sufficiently represented in the worlds of swimwear and luxury.

I want a woman wearing EBONYS not to feel like she needs to blend into the background.

I want her to feel beautiful, feminine, and confident.

Not because a garment gives her value.

But because it complements the value she already possesses.

My vision of luxury

I do not want to build EBONYS around cold or inaccessible luxury.

The luxury I envision is emotional.

It is found in a cut that enhances the body, in a detail noticed upon closer inspection, in a symbol with deep meaning, and in that specific sensation one feels when putting something on and immediately thinking: "This piece feels like me."

I want every creation to have a reason to exist.

To be desirable, of course, but also to tell a story.

This runway represented a beginning

As I watched the models walk in my creations on the Gold Coast, I felt a great sense of pride.

But above all, I thought about the journey still ahead.

EBONYS is still building its story.

There will be other collections, other women, other cities, and, I hope, many more runways.

But February 26th will remain special.

Because for a few minutes, a vision that existed primarily in my head became real right in front of me.

And perhaps that is what entrepreneurship and creativity are ultimately about: believing long enough in something that no one else can see yet, until the day they can finally see it too.

EBONYS was born from roots, femininity, and a vision.

And the story is only just beginning.
